(Electromagnetic Fields) EMF-History dates back over 3.5 billion years ago (or so Scientists believe) to the beginning of the earth’s existence. This magnetic field fluctuates can have extended periods of time with lower or higher energy. Conversely, the moon has no magnetic field.
Around 200 B.C the Greek physician Galen in his book De Simplicum Medicamentorum Temperamentis Ac Facultatibus (for those Greek Scholars) noted the cleansing powers of magnetism. The word “magnet” is derived from the ancient Greek “magnes lithos” meaning `stone from Magnesia which is an area of Greece known for its volcanic rocks with magnetic attributes.
Lodestones, or `guiding stones` placed on the body were used in the Middle Ages for magnetic treatment. These lodestones or `guiding stones`, were so named because of their use by Chinese, Viking, European and Arab sailors as navigational compasses. Lodestone is one of the few minerals that is found naturally magnetized.
EMF in the 19th Century
When the electron was discovered at the end of the 19th century electro-magnetism came in to the realm of science on the atomic level. Albert Einstein displayed that electricity and magnetism were different aspects of the same phenomenon. At that time medical textbooks included magnetism and electricity as therapeutic alternatives for insomnia, fatigue, arthritis, pain and convulsions.
In the early 20th Century magnetic therapy as a branch of medicine and area of clinical research began to decline in favor starting with the release in 1908 of Abraham Flexner`s report on `Medical Education in the United States and Canada`. The influence of the emerging Mayo Clinic and the corresponding rise in power of political medicine began a shift to nearly 100% dependence on pharmaceuticals for health. This began a period of 60 to 70 years where magnetic therapy along with other `natural` forms of treatment were most often dismissed.
The First Detection of Electromagnetic Pulses
German physicist W. O. Schumann’s research first detected in 1954 electromagnetic pulsations that exist in the Earth’s electromagnetic cavity (Ionosphere, the space between the surface of the Earth and the Stratosphere approximately 55 kilometers above the surface). These resonating frequencies occurred at 7.8 Hertz (1 Hertz = 1 frequency cycle per second) at the strongest to 45 at the weakest. The frequency levels are in the extremely low (ELF) portion of the Earth’s electromagnetic field spectrum. Compare the natural frequencies of the earth to the frequencies emitted by electronic devices that surround us.
